When Snoring May Signal Sleep Apnoea
Snoring occurs when airflow makes relaxed upper-airway tissue vibrate. Its cause can involve the nose, soft palate, tonsils, tongue position, weight, alcohol, medicines or sleeping posture, so laser treatment of oral tissue will not be appropriate for every patient.
Obstructive sleep apnoea involves repeated narrowing or closure of the airway and carries broader health implications. A GP or sleep physician may recommend a sleep study. Patients should continue CPAP, an oral appliance or other prescribed treatment unless their responsible practitioner changes the plan.
NightLase Procedure, Recovery and Limitations
The clinician directs controlled Er:YAG pulses to planned areas such as the soft palate, uvula and adjacent oral tissue. Treatment warms the tissue in stages without surgical cutting, and settings are adjusted according to anatomy, response and patient feedback.
Several sessions and later review are commonly discussed. Temporary warmth, dryness, irritation, tenderness, altered sensation or swallowing discomfort may occur; ulceration, infection, burns and scarring are less common risks. Improvement may be incomplete or temporary, and maintenance may be required.
Book a NightLase Assessment from Warrawee or Waitara
MD Cosmedical Solutions provides NightLase consultations for Warrawee and Waitara patients at the Wahroonga and Sydney CBD clinics. Bring details of previous sleep studies, current treatment and relevant medical or dental history so the clinician can consider the wider sleep-health picture.
The assessment may lead to NightLase, further investigation or a different recommendation. No reduction in snoring or duration of response is guaranteed. Seek medical advice promptly if breathing pauses, choking episodes or significant daytime sleepiness are present.
